Leon Bryant

Bio/Artist Statement

Asheville artist, Leon Bryant is best known for his gourd “birds”. Gourd art is a popular and highly decorative mountain craft.  It takes an entire season to grow the gourds and then another year to dry them. Once the gourds are dry, Leon handles each one until he can envision how each unique bird design will go. He carves holes to place the legs and tail feathers. He then mounts each bird.
